Musk made the announcement Monday in response to AI company Anthropic 's decision to commit 5% of its shares to a newly created public benefit fund designed to grow in value alongside the company.
Anthropic, founded as a public benefit corporation by CEO Dario Amodei and five cofounders, is moving toward a massive initial public offering as early as November following a confidential SEC filing in June. SpaceX debuted as a publicly traded company in June, turning Musk into the world's first trillionaire, with its stock closing at $146.03 on Friday ahead of its quarterly earnings report. The announcements from both tech leaders arrive amid heightened public concern over technology, with an AP-NORC poll indicating that 64% of Americans believe artificial intelligence is developing too fast.
